The design brief, issued in early 2022, called for a custom ‘apple crate’ tower. Using the Lappset Cubic range as the base structure allowed the eponymous design vision to be achieved with custom cladding and detailing, while avoiding the cost, delays, and compliance challenges of a fully bespoke build.
The tower pays tribute to the area’s heritage, referencing Orchard Park Apples, Farm Fresh, and Windermere Growers. This thematic detailing grounds the play structure in local history while maintaining durability, safety, and efficiency.
Alongside the tower, the playspace features an apple green inclusive wheelchair carousel from partners Recreology, ensuring universal access and broad play value. Delivered in collaboration with Risland and GbLA, the project reflects a balance of creativity, practicality, and community relevance.
