The Hangar Street Park playground delivers a unique design narrative inspired by the Australian B-24 Liberator Bomber. Developed in collaboration with Lappset, the structure is based on the proven Finno modular range and enhanced with a custom facade incorporating authentic insignia, emblems, and squadron markings. This thematic integration creates a distinctive play environment while maintaining compliance with Australian safety and accessibility standards.
The modular design ensures both cost-efficiency and long-term serviceability. By adapting the Finno framework, the project team achieved a highly maintainable solution that allows future upgrades without the need for bespoke components. Features include two slides catering to junior and senior users, balance bridges, and climbing elements that encourage coordination, agility, and imaginative play within the aircraft-inspired setting.
Accessibility and inclusivity were key drivers of the design. Ground-level play panels provide barrier-free interaction, ensuring all children can participate regardless of ability. Delivered in partnership with Moremac and Outlines Landscape Architects, this playground successfully balances a historically significant theme with functional, age-appropriate equipment, resulting in a community asset that is both engaging and practical.
